9's at 65 yards SHOOT

If this appears almost identical to a post I attempted to send earlier today, please disregard. I just received a message reporting I was not logged in, so I must have lost the login before I hit the SUBMIT button.
Our not for profit organization is planning a turkey shoot in October of this year. Besides the "Closest to the Dot", we wish to have a venue for shooters to hit a target more similar to a real turkey field shot. Well, for me a realistic shot is within 40 yards, but I know there are many shotguns nowadays capable of delivering a lethal load at much greater distances. Here are our ideas for the competition so far: 12 guage or smaller, 3 1/2" or shorter shells of plastic or paper, #9 or larger pellets of any material, 38 inch max barrel length including chokes or other attachments, Tripods, shooting sticks, or other aiming aids allowed, Shoot from any position(standing, leaning, sitting, lying prone, bench rest, propped), Target at 65 yards will be the inner 4 inch diameter of an 8" ringed paper. The most pellets penetrating the innermost 4" will WIN. In the event of a TIE, pellet count in the 4-6"ring will be added, then the 6-8" pellet count will be added if need to break a tie. A shooter could enter 2 guns and shoot each gun twice-one shot per target, $20 per shot. This way, a shooter could not spend over $80 to maximize his/her chances to win. Winner of the event would receive 50% of the total amount collected, say 50 shots fired would pay $500.<br/>
Your thoughts, ideas, concerns, questions, recommendations, or history with an event like the one described above will be greatly appreciated. If you know of particular area in which some imaginative shooter may tend to benefit from an unfair advantage, we'd like to know that as well. I hope I've described the proposed shoot well enough for you to have the idea. Turkey shoots are becoming less and less common down here in Mississippi, but maybe we can get more competitions started. Regards

I think I would try 1st to spark interest down in Mississippi with your turkey shoots by going with Wagner shells or Winchester AA's at a much closer distance, these two types of shells seem to work in numerous shoots in other states with good attendance. The 65 yard shoot is going to be an expensive TSS shoot! Lead is not going to cut it at that distance up against the Tungsten IMHO.

Are you going to allow custom shells or are you planing on supplying the shell but have a selection to choose from.
